A village house viewing checklist
Use the same five steps for each property. Capture the answers before you compare homes or ask for quotes.
Before you travel
- Confirm the property reference and ask for the entrance location privately.
- Ask who can show you the house, garden, meters and permitted outbuildings.
- Bring a notebook, a way to take photos with permission and the list of questions each house still needs.
At the property
- Drive the final approach and note gate width and where you could park.
- Walk the visible plot edge and note outbuildings and differences to clarify.
- Check visible rainwater routes and mark any areas that need further investigation.
- Ask to see which rooms can be heated and how the current services operate.
- Ask what stays with the house and what supporting records are available.
After the viewing
Separate repairs you would need before using the house from later improvements. Record which answers were demonstrated, which came from a document and which you still need to check. Ask the right professional about issues that would change your decision.
